DJ Set: The Mic Drop #1

I mix a lot of Drum and Bass – that’s home turf – but every now and then I like to switch gears and dive into House and Progressive House. And mixing Progressive House is a whole different beast. The blends take longer, the transitions breathe more, and you’ve got to tend to those EQ knobs like a babysitter!

One of my go-to tricks?
Bring in the bass from the incoming track first, while I kill the bass on the current one. You’ve got to choose your moment carefully, but when you nail it, it feels like the track just shifts into a new groove rather than “here’s the next tune.” After that, it’s all about slowly weaving in the mids and highs from the new track while fading out the old ones. Smooth as butter when it lands.

A lot of my Progressive House style comes from Half Amazing TV. The guy’s a sick DJ and his videos opened my eyes to a whole bunch of mixing concepts. If you’re into the craft, go check out his channel — he definitely influenced how I approach these slower, more textured blends.

The Mic Drop #1.
Progressive, smooth, and full of those long transitions where you almost have to guess where one track ends and the next begins.

Enjoy!
