Date of Visit: May 2017
I’m lucky that a few of my friends ended up living around the world, and one of them moved to Hong Kong – massive win for me. A chance to see a place I’d only ever seen in Bruce Lee films? No way I was passing that up.
The first thing that hit me was the humidity. Absolute madness. I’ve never felt anything like it. I was pretty fit at the time and used to walking everywhere at a decent pace… half a day in, I realised Hong Kong wasn’t having that. You can walk – you just need to slow your pace unless you want to melt into the pavement.
My first mission was Hong Kong Pier to see the Bruce Lee statue. That was a moment. Proper magic for me. Everyone was taking photos, paying respect to the most iconic martial artist of all time. I loved how much the city celebrates him. I even made it to the Bruce Lee museum – worth it.
Found the best ramen I’ve ever had in a tiny spot in central HK. One of those places that barely fits fifteen people but delivers food that changes your life. I also checked out a place called Potato Head – slick little venue, cool function room downstairs. I still remember the vibe in there and stole a few ideas for my DJ room at home.
And then there was Lamma Island – a ferry ride out and a completely different world. Quiet, relaxed, beautiful. I even found a record shop and grabbed some vinyl for the collection. Perfect souvenir.
Easily one of my favourite trips. A big bucket-list tick.
HIGHLY recommended.
